Music Beyond Border

After the colours and heat of the fantastic Mexican 'fiesta' in September, RTHK Radio 4's "Music Beyond Borders" series presented an evening of smooth jazz from Germany in partnership with the Consulate General of Germany in Hong Kong and the Goethe Institute. The German jazz group, the Florian Ross Trio made its Hong Kong debut in Studio One on October 14, 2004.

During the concert, the pianist and composer, Florian Ross , together with bassist Dieter Furh and drummer Matthias Kornmeyer, presented their distinctive sound with a selection of music from the highly acclaimed CD 'Blinds and Shades'. The 'Jazz Times' said this about the CD in its June 2004 issue: " [the trio] exhibit remarkable empathy and virtuosity." The trio also played a lot of new music by Ross that has yet to be recorded or released. It was an evening of 'firsts'.

Guests and the audience were also invited to a pre-concert reception to savour some German "dim-sum" and sample a variety of German wines.

Guests included the German Consul Mr. Jurgen Borsch and his wife; the Director of the Goethe Institute, Mr. Jurgen Keil; the Programme Manager of the Hong Kong Arts Festival, Ms. Mio Margaret Chow; Bassist Peter Scherr.
