Over HK$16 Millions Raised by “Operation Santa Claus 2016” for 23 NGOs
There is more happiness in giving than in receiving. The annual fund-raising campaign, Operation Santa Claus (OSC), is jointly organized by Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) Radio 3 and South China Morning Post (SCMP). Themed as “Small Change, Big Change”, OSC 2016 showed remarkable concern of the public towards those in need over the last two months. A total raised of HK$16,002,530 was revealed at the closing ceremony in Crown Wine Cellars on 17 January by officiating guests, Wife of the Chief Executive, Regina LEUNG; Director of Broadcasting, LEUNG Ka-wing; Chief Executive Officer of South China Morning Post Publishers Ltd., Gary LIU, and representatives of donors and beneficiaries.
Director of Broadcasting, LEUNG Ka-wing and Chief Executive Officer of SCMP Publishers Ltd., Gary LIU expressed their gratitude to all donors for their generosity, as well as to those who continuously initiated creative fundraising ideas for the good cause. In addition, some outstanding supporters received awards during the ceremony. Morgan Stanley, raising HK$3.2M this year, was awarded the “Top Corporate Fundraiser” for a number of fund-raising activities, including its annual “Morgan Stanley Directors’ Choir”. The “Top School Fundraiser Award” again went to Discovery Mind as they raised about HK$120K by completing a charity walk. Delia School of Canada was awarded the “Most Creative School” for organising the “Crazy Hat and Hair Day”. An amount of over HK$70K was raised, which is one of the highest amounts among school donors. KPMG received the “Most Creative Fundraiser Award” for organising their very first signature fundraiser in Hong Kong – “KPMG Run for a Claus”, which is a city hunt where participants ran across Hong Kong to tackle GPS-triggered challenges, in the name of charity.
