郭豐 Kwok Harris Fung (S1) One of my goals in English learning is getting higher marks in the exams and tests. I expect I can apply correct grammar to different English papers.

Recently, I have joined a programme called 'Toastmasters '. From this programme, I have learned many speaking skills which are also useful for public speaking, like how to make use of vocal clarity and pitch, adding jokes to our speeches, to arouse listeners' interest. I hope I can have more experience in these areas. In the "Toastmasters meetings", I have also tried doing different roles like making constructive evaluations on people's speeches. This programme has also given me the chance of being an MC for my school's Speech Day this year! This is actually one of my other goals - I want to be a confident speaker in public speaking.
李翊琳 LEE Yik Lam Amanda (S4) My goals and expectation in public speaking is that I can speak confidently and fluently in front of a bunch of people. I hope I will not be so nervous in front of people. I also want to inspire people somehow with my speeches. I always like to spread positive messages in my public speaking speeches or raise the awareness in some issues. I understand that making someone agree with my opinion is always a difficult task, but I would really like to take it as a challenge or goal for myself and work hard to succeed.

My goals and expectations in English learning might be being able to talk naturally with English native speakers. Since they have accents that we could hardly follow at times, if I manage to communicate with them, it proves that my English abilities have improved.
周修名 Chow Sau Ming Daniel (S4) The key to learning English is to read more, write more, listen more and speak more of it. Apart from attending English lessons at school, we are expected to read English newspapers every day to learn and polish up our knowledge in grammar and enlarge our vocabulary bank. We can also watch English movies to learn authentic pronunciation or maybe, take part in public speaking to learn how to speak English fluently and with confidence. Students in Hong Kong can usually read well and listen well. Yet, when it comes to writing and speaking, they feel awkward. That's because they seldom really use English. With public speaking training implemented at school, I think this barrier can be greatly addressed because it provides chances for students to use English in various ways.
