Dear Mr. Yang,

I am six years old.

I really want to know who invented "Alphabet".
If possible, please also let me know when "Alphabet" had been invented.

Thank you very much in advance.

Yours faithfully,
Kirsten Wu

Dear Kirsten,

There were many many alphabets from many different cultures . The alphabet of modern Western Europe is the Roman alphabet . There is also the Greek alphabet , which gave rise to many different languages . The exact steps of the
development of the English alphabet are not known .

Dear Mr Yang,

I made a sentence "we will make every endeavour to fulfil the promise", if I
want to use the word "endeavour" as a verb, should I say "we will endeavour
to fulfil the promise"?

would you please kindly teach me as your convenience.

thanks a lot

Kat

Dear Kat,

very good
Both are fine .

Dear Sir,

I am not certain about the meaning of "DEEM", as I have been contiuously
using it wrongly, but still cannot make any difference between the word "
DEEM" and "think" or "consider", can you help me?!

Thank you
Soph

Dear Soph,

According to Concise Oxford Dictionary , " deem " is a formal word . It means consider , regard , judge . eg. deem it my duty, was deemed sufficient, deem it necessary. It is rarely used except in legal or other formal documents.

Dear Mr Yang

Good afternoon!

Would you please tell me what the differences of the following sentences
are?

1. She is my old girl friend.
2. She is my ex girl friend.
3. She is an old girl friend of mine.

Moreover, the following sentence makes me confused, why are there 2 verbs,
need & think, in one sentence?

"Some say people need only think of themselves but I reject that idea as
completely wrong."

I look forward to your reply, thank you very much in advance.

Kat

Dear Kat ,

1. 她是我年老的女友
2. 她是我以前的女友
3. 她是我年老女友之一

You may say , 'some people say that people should only think of themselves '
'need' is a verb referring to one meaning .' Think' is another verb referring
to another idea .
