Dear Mr. Yang,

I came across the following slogan on anti smoking:

I Breathe What You Breathe!

Is there a grammatical mistake?
I think the message is wrong.

Thanks,

Angela Leung

It is correct, and very poetical too. It's a good slogan because it catches your attention. It menas, what you breathe in and out when you are smoking, I also breathe in and out the same dirty air.

楊官:

你好! 本人有兩個問題請你指點我的

1) present perfect tense 和 present perfect continuous tense分別在於 甚麼呢? 應何時使用?

2) 以下那一句是正確呢?
a) If you have not any objection, I assume that .........
b) If you do not have any objection, I assume that.......

謝謝你的指點!

Birdie

P.S. 得知你早前因病入院, 希望你一定要保重身體!!!!!! 不要太過粗勞呀, 大家都很喜歡楊官你的!!

a. This is bad English
b. This is good English
Grammatically , I don't think there is much difference .

Dear Mr Yang,

I would like to ask,

(1) "being" 一詞 是怎樣情況下使用的呢 ? 例如這句: I am sorry for
being late to our meeting,我經常碰見'being" 一詞,到底是什麼意思?

(2) 我也經常碰見 "to be" 這一詞在句子裡, 就是不明白它的意思和 用法,例如這句:we had to cut down our price to be competitive. 句子裡的 "to be" 是何意思呢?

1. It is not correct to say 'I am sorry for late' The 'being' is there
to link the adjective 'sorry' and the adjective 'late' . Otherwise it is not
grammatical .

2. The long sentence might be: to cut down our price in order (so as) to
be or in the hope of being competitive. It shows the reason for cutting the price.

what is the meaning of "down to earth"?
it means "Honest" or "true heart"?

thank you

True to a person - showing respect and support for a particular person
or belief in a way that does not change in different situation
( more or less the same as ' true heart ' )

' Honest ' - always telling the truth , never cheating , not hiding the
truth .
